My Computer Is Having Trouble With Sleep Mode and Hibernation
Sleep Mode
Many computers have sleep problems because they have an application that prevents it from going to sleep (such as a print job that's killing the computer's request to go to sleep), or because they can't simply because of hardware problems that prevent the computer from going to sleep. An example would be that the power supply can't support providing such low power requirements to the computer (it's either running at full power or nothing). For other problems, view this article.
Hibernation
Hibernation problems include the PC's ultra low state of power requirements to the computer's power supply and the hard drive must support hibernation as well. In Windows XP, when you are shutting down, hold down the shift key to see the hibernation icon. To enable hibernation in Windows XP, view this webpage. To enable hibernation in Windows Vista, go to Start, Control Panel, Hardware and Sound, Power Options, System Settings, and then use the scroll down buttons to enable hibernation when you do a certain action on your PC. To use more advanced power controls, go to Start, Control Panel, Hardware and Sound, Power Options, Choose when to turn off the display, and then Change advanced power settings.
