Minor Tweaks and Fixes

Windows XP won’t shut down
-Go to Start, Control Panel, Power Options, click on the 
Advanced Power Management tab, and enable Advanced Power
Management support. Shut down your computer.
-Disconnect any internet cables when shutting down.
Disable Error Reporting
-Go to Start, Control Panel, Performance and Maintenance, 
System, then click on the Advanced tab and the Error Reporting
button to disable Error Reporting.
Close Multiple Windows
-Hold down the Shift key while clicking the little X on the right hand
corner of the screen.
Clear the page file on Shutdown
-GotoStart,Run,typeinregedit,andpressenter. Go to 
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESYSTEMCurrentControlSetControl
SessionManagerMemoryManagementClearPageFileAtShutdown. 
Set the key’s value to 1.
Increase System Efficiency
-Go to Start, Run, type in regedit and press enter.
-Setthevalueofthekey HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESYSTEMCurrentControlSetControlSession
ManagerMemoryManagementDisablePagingExecutive to 1 and reboot your computer.
Restrict a Person’s Logon Hours
-Click Start, Run, type in cmd and press Enter.
-Set time limits for users to logon. For example,
1-net user Joe/time:M-F,08:00-17:00.
However, to cause the computer to shut down at a certain time for certain users, you will need extra software.

Speed Up Modem (For Dial-Up Users)

-Click Start, go to settings, click on Control Panel. Double click on Modems, right click Properties on your modem, click the Connections Tab, click on Advanced in the Extra Settings area, type S36=7. Click OK and exit.

Fix Corrupted Windows XP Files
-Insert your XP disc into the CD drive.
-Go to Start, Run, and type in sfc/scannow.
-This should automatically begin an attempt to fix corrupt Windows XP files.

 Stop Passwords From Expiring
Please note: You must have an administrator account to do this.
-Go to Start, Run, type in control userpasswords2 and press enter.
-Select the advanced tab, press the Advanced button below the Advanced user management header.
-Select Users from the "Local Users and Groups" area.
-Right click your user name in the right pane and select properties.
-On the general tab, click "Password never expires." Click Apply, and then OK to exit the window.
